Winchester introduced the .357 Magnum, which was dimensionally identical to the .38 Special except for a .125 inch longer case, and the first revolvers (referred to as ".357 Magnum Models") were completed by S&W on April 8, 1935. Jordan's idea for a "peace officer's dream" sidearm was a heavy-barreled four-inch K-Frame .357 Magnum with a shrouded barrel like the big N-frame .357 and adjustable sights. After a year of experimentation with improved-strength steels and special heat-treating processes, the result was the .357 Combat Magnum (later designated Model 19), with the first serial-number gun (K260,000) presented to Jordan on November 15, 1955. ok its after '68 then, i have the hogue rubber grips on it Go to a bookstore and look for the 3rd Ed of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson in the Sports Section. S&W can probably provide an exact date based on the serial number.i have a S&W model 15-3 in the family collection and wanted to see if i can find out how to date one of these revolvers so i can a general year of production I tried calling Smith and they almost gave me the runaround with giving me the manufacturing date. LAPD and LASD, among other LEA, both issued them and 1970 was in that model's big time relative to production.

I seriously thought this was about asking a model that works for S&W on a date. I would start with a small token of my affection... The Model 15 was made in the hundreds of thousands of units over the years. If you intend to sell it, S&W revolver collectors place value on having the original box, papers, and wax paper.

I believe the date tables are in the front part of the book. The Model 15 was made in the hundreds of thousands of units over the years. Out of the family collection, this is my favorite 38, and will never sell this handgun.

Having a bit of a time trying to identify year of manufacture for a .22 Mag S&W revolver. I say this because there are numbers in the Crane but not the typical model numbers you see now days, so I don't really know what the model number is. When you see it again be sure to check the serial number on the butt as cranes sometimes have "assembly" numbers and check under the extractor for a matching number on the cylinder.

It appears to be a 6" bbl with adjustable sights on a J frame? According to SCSW, .22 magnum K frame Model 48's came about in 1959 and started around serial #K348xxx and should have a model number in the crane.
